Fort Qaitbey — ‘Ala’aa

The first official tourst visit we did here in Egypt was visit Fort Qaitbey in Alexandria. It’s quite a ways away from our dorm, but is visible even from our end of town. It’s definitely an important symbol of Alexandria, and we were definitely not dissapointed. Here’s a little blurb about it from Wikipedia (I know, as a Middlebury student I should not be using it : )

The Citadel of Qaitbay (or the Fort of Qaitbay) (Arabic,قلعة قايتباي) is a 15th century defensive fortress located on the Mediterranean sea coast, built upon/from the ruins of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, in Alexandria, Egypt. It was established in 1477 AD by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa’it Bay.

Here are some beatiful pictures from the expedition:

  1. Why cant you use Wikipedia? when we try to use the internet for a resource at my school teachers get mad because if you google it may be incorrect infomoration, and she hates when we use Wikipedia too. Why not?

  2. The reason behind it is because anyone can post information on there, they don’t have to be a specialist. Therefore, sometimes there’s wrong information on there.
